About La Mezzaluna

La Mezzaluna is an italian restaurant in Princeton, New Jersey. It is listed at 25 Witherspoon St, Princeton, NJ 08542, which places it among the local businesses of Princeton that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as family restaurant, restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (609) 688-8515. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is lamezzaluna.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 701 reviews, which is a strong result for an italian restaurant in Princeton and suggests consistent service.

Princeton is in New Jersey, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Princeton is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New Jersey's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The bruschetta was perfect. Highly recommended. We tried the veggie cannelloni and the pesto farfadelle. Delicious!

Food was excellent, specially the Steak salad (amazing dressing on the fresh baby spinach leaves) and the chicken breast in white wine. Service was also extremely friendly and helpful. Italian music in the background was nice, I would add more classics Italian music but it still was a great atmosphere.

We made a reservation and still we wound up waiting over half an hour for our table after we arrived. The maitre de said that it was because the previous diners were still paying for their meal. If that's the case then the waiter needs to hurry them along to pay informing them that there are people waiting to be seated. Food was okay overall, but the linguine with scallops, calamari, mussels, and shrimp. There was only one scallop in the mix and the shrimp tasted like dirt. Risotto with pork tenderloin. The pork was extra chewy (way overcooked). Waiter was nice enough, but didn't ask us how the food was after we ate. There was also a party of around 30 people in the restaurant proper while we were there, so I can see how that can effect wait times for seating, but if that's the case, then don't accept reservations, or close the restaurant and make it a private event. I'm sure our experience was situational, but it did affect our time there unfortunately. Not sure if we'll be back.

Kind of an underwhelming storefront in an otherwise very picturesque Princeton. Otherwise, very intimate and close seating inside. Make sure to ask about the chefs specials because many people from my party tried the special dishes! The vodka chicken parm was incredible! The chicken cutlets were perfectly thin and crispy, the vodka sauce was creamy, yet light and spicy. Served over a bed of al dente linguini, this was a very filling and tasty dish! Good prices, and another great BYOB spot, so make sure to bring your favorite wine to pair with some great Italian food!

I feel quite bad giving such a low rating because the service was lovely, but the food really didn't appeal to my dining companion and I. We left after the appetizers. My companion ordered their appetizer special. The sausage could have done with some sauce, since it's naturally dry. I like that there's a bit of spice in it, and found it tasted better with some added freshly ground pepper. I think the spinach could have been blanched a tad more, as it was still somewhat bitter. The cheese and peppers were standard. Overall, some extra glaze or sauce for extra flavor would have been great. The truffle gnocchi appetizer which I ordered was fairly standard and had the minimum amount of sauce. It was good, but not great. For the mains, I'm afraid there just wasn't anything that really spoke to us. That may very well be our own pickiness, but the mains selection just felt rather boring for a sit-down restaurant. Some of the sandwiches could do for a quick lunch, but this is meant to be a proper restaurant rather than a cafe. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was lovely - our servers were very friendly and attentive - but unfortunately, the food just didn't cut it.
